Oudkarspel, 28 and 29 December 2009

Today, during the Indoor Beukers Show, the contenders had the last chance of gaining starting permits for
Jumping Amsterdam. Emile rode four beautiful rounds and placed himself with both Silat and Uutje for the
jump-off. However, riders were only allowed to start one horse in the jump-off, and as Silat was already
selected to go to Jumping Amsterdam, Uutje was the obvious choice. Uutje jumped well, but unfortunately,
one rail was knocked down and this resulted in a 12th place. Nevertheless an excellent performance.

Oudkarspel, 27 December 2009

Today, no less than 40 riders came to the start with their horses for the Z-2 class (third level), during the
splendidly embellished Indoor Beukers Horse Show. Kirsten and Sandron SB performed very well in a
lovely musical kür and were awarded with 68.25% and 5th place. A fine result.

Kockengen, 24 December 2009

Today Winse Boy, the sturdy 6-year-old Cabochon son, left Stal Brouwer for his new home in Germany. He
has been sold to one of Germany’s top riders and we hope he does well in the future.

Bunschoten, 20 December

Emile and Silat qualified today to participate in the 1.30 m class of Jumping Amsterdam, which will be held
from 21 to 24 January 2010.

Houten, 13 December

Today was a busy day for Stal Brouwer. First we drove to Houten, where Emile started both Silat and Uutje
in the 1.20 class. The course was set up well, but unfortunately both horses knocked off one rail in the first
phase. We were pleased nevertheless, because both horses showed good form. After taking the show-
jumpers home, we picked up Sandron SB; he had to start with Kirsten in the saddle at 8 pm in the Z-2
musical kür. We thought the kür went much better than the one last week, but the score was a mere 65.75%,
which resulted in a 5th place. This was a bit disappointing after the percentage of 71% from last week.

Haarlem, 6 December

Today the city of Haarlem saw the selections for Jumping Amsterdam. Emile rode in the 1.20 m class with his
horses RVO’s Uutje and Silat. Once again Emile managed to keep clear rounds with both horses, so he was
on the list for the jump-off. Silat went round like lightning, but at one point saw his path crossed by another
rider! Emile had to yell to avoid a collision and lost his concentration for a split second, causing one rail to fall
down. Emile was with Silat the fastest combination of all though, and they came 5th. RVO’s Uutje went
smoothly round, but for the last jump. He touched the wood and the rail fell off. Nevertheless, his
performance was good enough for the 7th place.

Groenendaal, 5 December

Today at Groenendaal Stables in Bunschoten, the selections for the Z-2 musical kür (third level) were held
for the well-known Indoor Jumping Amsterdam Horse Show. Kirsten and Sandron SB showed a wonderful
new kür, which they performed in public for the first time. The results were fantastic; a score of no less than
71% and a 3rd place. Sandron SB thought it was all quite exciting and was a bit reluctant, causing some minor
errors.

Hulten, 29 November

We want our horses RVO’s Viegro, Winse Boy and Travers to get as much competition experience as
possible and therefore we took them to Hulten today. Sadly, only one test could be ridden. Kirsten rode
Travers in the Z-2 (third level) and although he was a bit spooky, they were still awarded with 210 points,
which resulted in a 3rd place. Annemarie rode Winse Boy, who went round in the arena smoothly as always,
in that same class. They were awarded with 212 points and the 2nd place. Viegro came to the start in the Z-1
class (third level) and was far less tense than ever. He too won the 2nd prize with 205 points.

Barsingerhorn, 27 November

Today we took Bellafanory to the IBOP tests in Barsingerhorn. This exquisite 3-year-old mare by Florencio
out of a Sandro Hit mare passed the test with a score of 76 points. As she was already granted the
provisionally keur predicate, we may now call her an elite mare.

Lisse, 22 November

Today the Stal Brouwer Team drove to Lisse where Kirsten was going to participate in the Young Riders
test with Oswin. The overall picture was lovely, despite many small errors, and Kirsten was very happy with
the score of 60.50%.
Kirsten also started Travers in the ZZ Light class (third level progressing towards fourth level); they were
awarded with a 3rd place and 62.5%, a good score. Travers performed elegantly and smoothly. This horse
will soon be a real eye-catcher!

Leusden, 21 November

To get more indoor routine with Viegro, Winse Boy and Travers, we went to Leusden today. Viegro was
much easier to handle than in Bodegraven and Annemarie took two orange rosettes home, earning 218 and
226 points, respectively, in the Z-1 class. Winse Boy went smoothly round in the Z-2 class as well; in the first
test he obtained 211 points and the 218 points in the second test meant a 1st prize. Travers and Kirsten
performed a spectacular test, obtaining 232 points in the Z-2 class, which was definitely impressive. During
the second test they made a few mistakes, but still managed a score of 213 points.

Kockengen, 15 November

Velvet Dream SB, competing at Advanced level and in the Young Riders competition, has been sold to
Belgium. We have no doubts that this horse will earn high scores with her new Junior rider. The Stal Brouwer
Team wishes her as much fun and success with Velvet Dream SB as we had.

Harmelen, 15 November

The subtop selections were held at the Harmelen Equestrian Centre. Kirsten started Travers for the first time
in the ZZ Light competition (third level progressing towards fourth). This horse needs to get much more
experience in the arena and he spooked more than once during this test. Nevertheless, we expect a great deal
from this horse once he has settled down. Kirsten started Oswin for the first time in the Prix St. George test
and with a score of 60.91% she was definitely satisfied.

Bodegraven, 14 November

Today our competition calendar brought us to Indoor Bodegraven, which has a stand, banners, and many
decorations and is therefore a big event for the horses. Viegro still does not like indoor competitions and can
be very hard to get round in the arena. That is why Annemarie started him today in the Z-1 class. In the first
test Viegro would not go anywhere near the stand and yes, the banners were tremendously scary. Annemarie
had no other choice than to end the test prematurely. The second test went much better, however, and with
213 points they achieved the 3rd prize, despite the tension.
Annemarie also brought Winse Boy for the first time and started him in the Z-2 class. He performed smoothly
in both tests and though he noticeably thought the audience was very exciting, he kept on going, without any
hesitation. This earned them the 1st prize in both tests, with 209 and 211 points, respectively.
Kirsten took Sandron SB to start in Bodegraven in the Z-2 class and they were awarded a 2nd prize in both
tests. We think this is an excellent achievement, given the young age and lack of indoor show experience of
this horse.

Lisse, 8 November

In Lisse a selection show was organised today for Jumping Amsterdam, which we attended with Uutje and
Silat. Silat jumped superbly, despite the tough day yesterday in Barneveld. The combination went round clear
in the first phase and set the fastest time in the jump-off. Unfortunately, one rail came down and this meant a
4th place for Emile. This was really a disappointment for him, because the best three were selected for
Jumping Amsterdam.
Uutje was clearly too tired after yesterday and he stopped two times for fence number 3. Too bad, but these
things happen. Emile obviously needs to slow down a bit with him.

Barneveld, 7 November

Today was a big day for Emile, who managed to place himself with both his horses for the jump-off of the big
Indoor Barneveld Horse Show. The fifteen best combinations in four courses were allowed to start in the big
evening final. The fences were built at the maximum height, which was pretty hard on the horses after such a
long day. Silat was the first to go into the ring for the 1.20 m course. One rail was knocked down, but Silat
jumped the rest of the course exemplary. He was placed in the top ten. Uutje was to start in the 1.30 m
course, but it all became a bit too much for him; he was terribly frightened of the huge crowd that cheered
enthusiastically for all the contenders. If it was up to Uutje, he would have turned round and taken off, straight
towards the exit. Fences 3 and 7, both built towards the public, were really too much for him and he stopped
at both of them. They ended at a 15th place, which we are very proud of as Indoor Barneveld is a huge
event.

Wormerveer, 1 November 2009

Today Oswin and Kirsten started in Wormerveer in the ZZ Advanced class. They were in excellent form and
showed their best test ever. Their percentage of 64.19% could not be beaten by any of the other
combinations and the 1st prize was theirs. Unfortunately we had to wait 2½ hours before the next test began
and Oswin had to wait in the truck. As the weather was really bad, he became a bit nervous and tired.
Nevertheless, the second test resulted in a 2nd place, with a score of 61.67%.

Houten, 31 October 2009

Travers, the new star of Stal Brouwer, went for the first time with us to competition today at the gorgeous
equestrian centre of the Scharroo family in Houten. Travers is by the well-known dressage performer Jazz,
out of a Blanc Rivage mare, and we welcomed him six weeks ago. It truly is a pleasure to ride this horse! In
the arena he was still a bit spooky, but he impressed the jury and the audience and won both tests in the ZZ-
class (third level). This big chestnut will make his entrance in the ZZ Light class in the Harmelen Equestrian
Centre on 15 November.

Houten, 25 October

We took Uutje and Emile to Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten, where a 3-day show jumping competition was
organised. Emile took Uutje only for the classical 1.30 m course, because of his ‘merry behaviour’ last week
in Aalsmeer. They went round fantastically in the course, which was built pretty high and had some technical
difficulties in the lines. Too bad that Uutje knocked off that one rail.

Emile Brouwer and RVO's Uutje, 1.30 m course, Houten

Emile and RVO's Uutje Z-class Houten

Harmelen, 24 October

Kirsten took Velvet Dream SB and Oswin with her to the ZZ Advanced competition in Harmelen. Velvet
moved well and with visibly less tension. Their score of 62.86% was good for a 6th place. Oswin moved
superbly with lots of impulsion and upward movement. But again there was a big difference between the
juries. The one jury awarded this combination with more than 67% and placed them 1st, while the other jury
thought this test good for a mere 61%. The average was nearly 64%, which still meant a 2nd prize.

Aalsmeer, 18 October

Today we went to Wennekers Stables in Aalsmeer to jump. Silat and Emile were both in top form and
jumped superbly. They won the 2-phase 1.20 m course in great style. Emile steered Silat round with two
extremely sharp-cut turns and set a time that was so fast that no one could beat them! Emile also started
Uutje in this 1.20 m course and went round clear. Instead of Silat who won the course but was already
unsaddled and at ease in the truck, Emile took Uutje for the lap of honour. Uutje thought this was great fun.
Unfortunately, he was still a bit too merry during the 1.30 m course and bucked in between the fences, not
paying attention at all to his job. He knocked down three fences! Next time Silat wins, he has to go and pick
up his own prize!

Lisse, 11 October

In Lisse another subtop competition was held on Sunday, but because of the huge number of competitors
they were only allowed to start in one test in the ZZ Light class (third level progressing towards fourth level).
Annemarie and Velvet made their debut in this class, but alas, Velvet got really spooked in one of the corners
and failed badly in a number of exercises because of this. Nevertheless, the main jury awarded the
combination with 62% and the jury sitting at H gave them 60%. The average score was 61% which resulted
in a 6th prize.

Geldrop, 7 October

During Geldrop Hippique a ZZ Advance class was organised and Kirsten took both Velvet Dream SB and
Oswin to participate in it. Velvet Dream was a bit too tense due to the beautiful entourage, but earned a
reasonable 61%. Oswin performed beautifully in both tests, with only some minor errors. However, the
percentage was a bit disappointing; 62.5% in the first test, which brought them a 4th prize. The second test
was awarded with a slightly higher score, namely 66%. One jury even valued this test with a grand score of
70%! Kirsten and Oswin took home the 1st prize for this one.

Lisse, 4 October

Today was the debut for Emile and RVO’s Uutje in the 1.30 m class, but as a warm-up they first jumped the
1.20 m class, which was scheduled earlier. This went superbly and the clear round was a good preparation
for the next step up: the 1.30 m class. Uutje had no problems with these higher jumps and went smoothly
round without knocking down any of the fences. The result was a 5th prize. Super!
Emile also jumped with Silat one 1.20 m course, and there too he managed to stay clear.
.

Ermelo, 3 October

Today the grand final of the NRPS/Subli Cup was held In the Dutch Equestrian Federation Centre in Ermelo.
Kirsten and Sandron SB won the most important class, the Z-2 class. With scores of 231 and 236 points,
respectively, this combination rose far above the other competitors and they definitely earned the Champion’s
title.

Maasdijk, 26 September

Today Kirsten started both Velvet Dream and Oswin in the ZZ Advanced class (Prix St. Georg level);

together with Velvet she scored no less than 66.13% in the first test! In the second test they made some

errors, due to increasing tension; nevertheless they were awarded the 3rd place with 60.29%. Oswin did very

well too; in the first test he scored 64.35% and this was good for the 2nd place. The second test went even

better; although he was noticeably a bit tired, he won this test with 62.43%.

Kockengen, 24 September

Today Kirsten received a letter from the Royal Dutch Sport Horse, bearing very good news. Alain Delon

performed really well in the semifinals of the prestigious PAVO cup last summer. However, because Kirsten

is not allowed to ride championships in the L2 class (first level training for second) and therefore cannot

qualify through the sport for the selection of the World Championship young dressage horses, Kirsten is

allowed to go straight to the selections with Alain. This will be an extremely good experience and we hope

we will make it to the next round!

Kapel Avezaath, 20 September

At noon we left home for Kapel Avezaath with Emile, Uutje and Silat, in order to participate in the ‘Silver

Cherry Show’. To be allowed to the finals, the riders had to achieve a first or second place in the classic

course. Emile rode Silat beautifully to a clear round in the 1.10 m class and in the jump-off they made one

fault and ended 2nd. Emile’s other horse, Uutje, also jumped a clear first round and also made one mistake.

The result was a 3rd place. Because the rider who ended as number one withdrew from the final, Emile was

allowed to continue with both his horses. It really was a lot of fun; the horses and riders were asked to jump

five pretty high fences, after which the rider had to jump off the horse and onto a ‘quad’, a four-wheeled

motor, with which he or she had to manage a course around traffic cones as fast as possible, of course. The

total group of finalists consisted of 10 combinations and Emile came 3rd with Silat and 5th with Uutje.

Unfortunately, in his round with Uutje, the quad didn’t work properly, otherwise he would have made a very

fast time indeed.

Hoogland, 19 September

Today Kirsten and Sandron SB participated for the first time in the Z-2 class (third level) competition; what's

more, this was also a selection for the much appreciated Hoefslag Cup. The winner of this class is allowed to

start in the big Zuidlaren Indoor show for the much coveted title of the Hoefslag Cup. Sandron SB felt good

and did his best; too bad that the points were a bit on the low side. The main jury awarded their test with 207

points, the other jury, sitting at H, only 197. In the second test of the day Kirsten and Sandron SB made

more minor errors, nevertheless, they were awarded with more points, that is, 213. We think it was an

excellent debut in the Z-2 class.

Annemarie also rode in this class with her horse Velvet Dream SB. Velvet moved beautifully and balanced

through the arena, which was appreciated by the main jury with no less than 224 points. The jury sitting at H

thought this test was worth 219 points, so the average score came to 222.5. The winner of this Hoefslag Cup

competition also received 225.5 points, so in fact this meant an equal 1st place for Annemarie and Velvet.

However, in this case part number 34 of the test, as awarded by the main jury, was decisive; Annemarie and

Velvet scored 6 points here, whereas the other combination was awarded with 7 points. Still, we are very

happy and proud with their achievements. Moreover, in the second test they scored 237 points, which meant

that they took the first prize home, well ahead of the runner-up.

Kockengen 19 September

When we came home from the show in Hoogland, we found a letter from the Koninklijke Nederlandse

Hippische Sportfederatie (Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports federation), telling us that Kirsten had been

selected – for the third consecutive year – to participate in the much valued Rabobank winter training

sessions.

Silat broadcasted!

Silat participated in a photo shoot for the new television program “Benelux’ Next Top Model”. The program

will be broadcasted on September 28 and October 4 on the RTL5 channel. Benelux’ Next Top Model is

broadcast every Monday evening and repeated every Saturday/Sunday evening on the RTL5 channel.

You can also watch the show on Internet; go to http://www.rtl.nl/service/gemist/home/; scroll down to

Benelux’ Next Topmodel, click on part 3. The segment starts at 22.25 minutes.

Hollandse Rading, 13 September

At Prinsenburg Stables, at Hollandse Rading, a show jumping competition was organized for all classes.

Emile started Silat in the L-class (1.10m) and his first round remained clear. In the jump-off they realized the

fastest time; unfortunately Silat knocked one fence down. Mind you, they were six seconds faster than the

horse that would eventually take the first prize. In the end Silat and Emile took the 4th prize home. After the L

-class, Emile started Silat for the first time in the next class, the M, over 1.20 m. Their round went smoothly

but for one rail. Nevertheless, they won their first test point. Emile also started RVO’s Uutje in this class and

after a beautifully ridden round, they managed to ride a super fast clear jump-off, resulting in the 1st prize.

Congratulations!

Ermelo, 4 September

Today was the day of the Dutch Championships dressage. Kirsten started RVO’s Viegro in the Z-1 class

(third level). Unfortunately, the Organizational Board decided that it was not allowed to explore the arena

before starting the test. This was a pity, because Viegro, who hasn’t been with us for too long a time, thought

the entourage was very exciting indeed. Although the test went fairly well, with some highlights, Viegro was

visibly very tense. And that is something you will get punished for during a National Championship.

Nevertheless, Team Stal Brouwer was pleased with the final results, a score of 61.4%!

Ede, 29 August

Today was a day of dressage in the city of Eden. Kirsten and RVO’s Viegro started here and this

competition was considered an important last rehearsal before the Dutch National Championships, which will

be held on Friday 4 September. Kirsten and Viegro achieved twice the 1st prize in the Z-1 class (third level)

with 240 and 218 points, respectively. A fine final rehearsal, so to speak.

Annemarie rode as well, with Velvet Dream SB in the Z-2 class (third level). They too performed splendidly

with two first prizes, 222 and 227 points respectively. By now this combination acquired enough test points

to start in the ZZ Light class (third level progressing towards fourth level). We are definitely looking forward

to this.

Ede, 28 August

Emile and RVO’s Uutje rode in the Show Jumping in Eden. In the classical M-course they went round

smoothly and without faults. In the jump-off they rode a clear round too and they ended in the 8th place. The

second course was immediately ridden on time; again Emile and RVO’s Uutje stayed clear and now their

time was good enough for a 5th place.

Almelo, 22 August

Today a subtop competition took place in Almelo. Kirsten took Velvet Dream with her and started him for

the first time in the ZZ-Advanced (Prix St. Georg level). Despite some minor errors, they were awarded with

good percentages, that is to say 62.7% and 62.9%. These percentages meant a 3rd and a 2nd prize!

Ermelo, 12 August

During the KWPN Paardendagen (the “Horse days” of the Royal Dutch Sport Horse), the semifinals of the

prestigious PAVO Cup were ridden. Kirsten was to start Alain Delon SB in the afternoon and Alain

performed absolutely fantastic in this beautiful arena. The combination was awarded with 72 points. Sadly,

the limit to be allowed to the next round was set at 73.5 points, which meant that they missed it by just 1.5

point. Well, that is all in the game, we still think they rode a very strong test.

Waver, 8 August

Annemarie started Velvet Dream twice in the Z-2 class (third level) and they scored a victory in both tests

with 219 and 224 points, respectively.

Hoevelaken, 6 August

Emile and RVO’s Uutje were in absolute top form, at this great and attractive evening competition. It was

pretty warm and the courses were not easy at all. Emile and Uutje managed to stay clear in the M Classic

round, as well as in the jump-off, which resulted in a 6th place. Later in the 2-phase round Uutje knocked

one rail down.

Huizen, 2 August

Today Emile took RVO’s Romy with him to jump in the L-class (1.10m). They went smoothly round in this

classic course, without any faults! Unfortunately, they knocked one rail down in the jump-off. RVO’s Uutje

jumped for the first time in the M-class (1.20m) and this went very well; although one rail was knocked off,

they still got their first test point in this class.

Nieuwe Wetering, 1 August

Annemarie performed superbly with Velvet Dream SB in the Z-2 class (third level) in Nieuwe Wetering.

They were awarded with no less than 221 and 224 points, which resulted in two orange rosettes, the colour

that comes with the first prize.

Annemarie also rode Viegro; this horse is very scared of everything and needs to experience competitions as

often as possible so that he learns that there is nothing to worry about and to get rid of the tension. Despite

the tension, they achieved a first place in one of their tests.

Zevenaar, 30 July

This week the lovely city of Zevenaar was entirely dedicated to horses during its Equestrian Week.

Annemarie took Velvet Dream SB and RVO’s Viegro with her to this splendid equestrian centre so that they

would gain some more experience during this large tournament. Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad

when Viegro had to enter the arena; nevertheless, he performed absolutely marvellously in his first test and

was awarded 227 points and a 2nd prize. Annemarie felt that the second test went pretty well too, but the

jury thought differently and they achieved a 6th place with 204 points. Velvet Dream was placed 7th and 5th

in this Z-class with test points. Annemarie trained a lot lately to improve the mare’s rhythm and to get rid of

her spookiness.

Hoogland, 24 and 25 July

This weekend the Utrecht Provincial Championships were on the calendar. All the horses and riders of Team

Stal Brouwer performed very well. The most important result was that Kirsten and RVO’s Viegro were

selected to represent the province of Utrecht at the Dutch Championship class Z-1 in Ermelo, which will be

held on 4 and 5 September.

Eline became reserve champion with Rubilat SB in class B dressage!

Uden, 19 July

Kirsten and Velvet Dream started today in the ZZ-1 class (third level) in Uden and they showed two good
and well-balanced tests, with only some minor errors. In one test they achieved the 1st place and in the other
test they were placed second with 63% and 63.7% scores, respectively.
Oudewater, 27 June

The second dressage selection was organized by the IJsselruiters association. Unfortunately, the quality of the
surface was extremely bad; nevertheless, RVO’s Viegro was able to show two well-balanced tests with
Kirsten in the saddle. In the first test they obtained 216 points and in the second test 218 points in the Z-1
class (third level), which resulted in a third prize. Sandron SB on the other hand performed fantastically.
Despite the fact that Sandron showed too much tension during the walk passages in this first test, the
combination was awarded with 220 points and took home the orange rosette (first place). In the second test
the combination received 216 points, which was good for a second place. Annemarie started Special SB in
the Z-2 class (third level) in two tests; Special SB showed a lot of tension during the gallop reprises in the first
test and they gained 208 points. The second test went much better and they became fifth with 214 points.
Silat SB was taken to start in the dressage competition too, for the first time in a long time, and Kirsten rode
him instead of Annemarie. They achieved 216 points in the first test in the Z-2 class (a nice fourth place) and
the second test went even better: they were awarded with 218 points, which was good for the first prize and
Silat SB was given a beautiful rug.

Bunschoten, 19 June PAVO CUP

The SB Stables Team left for the prestigious Pavo Cup in Bunschoten with Alain Delon SB, one of their own
breeding products, by UB40 out of their Beach Boy mare. Alain Delon worked superbly under Kirsten
Brouwer and with the fantastic result of 72 points they were invited to the semifinals in Ermelo.

Odijk, 14 June

Today Silat and Uutje were to start in the show jumping arena, whereas Special SB was taken along to gain
more experience in the dressage ring. This horse needs a lot of competition experience in order to get rid of
his ‘stage fright’. The first test they performed absolutely marvellously and with the result of 234 points
Annemarie and Special SB took the first prize home. Silat and Uutje were both entered in one classic course
(hunter style); both made a first clear round and they were clear in the jump-off. Emile was placed 6th with
Uutje and 7th with Silat in this L-level competition.

Odijk, 13 June

The first selection for all dressage classes was held today under a perfectly clear blue sky. The Veldruiters
association was responsible for the organization. Kirsten started her Sandron SB in the Z-1 class with an
excellent result: 224 points and a first place. In the second test they achieved 205 points as Sandron showed
considerably more tension here. In the second ring Kirsten rode her first test with RVO’s Viegro and they
too took hold of the first place, with a splendid performance good for 234 points. They too achieved 205
points in the second test. Viegro must grow stronger, but this will merely be a matter of time.
Special SB did quite well in the first test of the Z-2 class (third level), however the jury only awarded them
with 198 points; for their second test, which did not go quite so well, they received 117 points and even a
third prize.

De Steeg (Gelderland), 6 June

Today the National Dutch Championships in the ZZ Light class (third level progressing towards fourth) was
held at the magnificent grounds of Castle Middachten. Kirsten had acquired the right to start here with Velvet
Dream SB because of their previous excellent results during the preliminary selections in which they proved to
be in the Top 30 of the best Dutch combinations. Velvet and Kirsten showed a well-balanced test during
which Velvet was absolutely relaxed; a mere 59% however was what they earned, placing them in 18th
position. It really was a well-ridden test, better than all the preliminary selections, in which Kirsten en Velvet
scored well over 65%, resulting more than once in a first prize. However, this is all in the game called
dressage competition. Despite the disappointing results, we are overjoyed, because we can see the huge
progression of this combination. In July Kirsten will start Velvet in the ZZ Advanced class (Prix St. George
level)

Hoogland, 30 May

In Hoogland the show jumpers RVO’s Uutje and Silat were once again fighting fit. Silat had to start first and
unfortunately knocked off a rail from the last fence of the first classic course. The second course was a two-
phase course in which Silat established a first clear round and eventually he finished 4th, after a super fast
jump-off. Uutje too had a clear first round, albeit a little slower than Silat; unluckily they made one fault in the
jump-off. Nevertheless they achieved a decent 7th place. Itabassi was also entered in the M-class; Emile
rode his mount superbly through this course without any faults, which resulted in a 4th prize. Well done!

Abcoude, 23 May

Today both Eline and Emile were put to the test and succeeded brilliantly by winning the Rabobank Talent
Plan prize, which offers these young riders professional coaching by top riders or coaches. Eline teamed up
with Rubilat SB and won the first test in the dressage B class (novel class) with 208 points. In the second test
they became third with 198 points. We are so proud!
Emile and Silat SB won the Rabobank prize by winning the show jumping 1.10m class. In the jump-off they
really had to make speed, because a number of very strong combinations had placed themselves for this
second round. They managed both clear and really fast. RVO’s Uutje also came to the start twice, however
he had two faults in the first course. Uutje still jumps the fences really big, which results in problems in the
lines of the double combinations. But, we are sure this will improve over time with some extra training
sessions.

Annemarie brought Special SB for the second time to the start in the Z-2 class (third level). In the first test
Special gave Annemarie a good feeling, but too many unnecessary errors were made. They received a 0 on
their jury’s report for a change of lead they started too early, and a -2 for a wrong turn on the haunches. In
addition two times a 3 for the change of lead to the left; Special is still very touchy for the right leg and this
causes too much tension. The jury was very kind and stepped out of the car to tell Annemarie that the total
image looked very good and that they would undoubtedly score highly once the tension problem will be
solved. In the second test they earned just enough points to earn a test point, even though the gallop reprise
brought plenty of tension again.

Abcoude, 21 May
Ascension Day

Emile took Koralo SB and Itabassi SB with him to the outstanding show in Abcoude; the weather was
perfect and so was the surface. Koralo was to do two L class dressage tests (first level training for second)
and things really went well. They managed to score 185 points in the first test and 193 in the second, which
earned them a second place.

Next he had to compete in the show jumping L-class and the warming up went absolutely fine. Unfortunately
he knocked off one rail in the first round due to his inexperience. He still gets a bit nervous in the arena and
pays more attention to the public and the surroundings than to his work. The second course was not an easy
one; unusual looking fences and the last jump was a water jump. The funny thing is that Koralo had no
problem whatsoever with the strange fences; it is the surroundings and the public he finds scary. He became
really hot during this course and Emile had his hands full. Although Koralo gave Emile a superb ride, he had
two faults, which we thought was a good result anyway, as half of the combinations were disqualified after
knocking down too many fences.

For Itabassi it was the second time that he saw an M-level course and he definitely did his very best. In the
first course he had just one fault and in the second course he really did well too. Sadly, he found the last
jump, the water jump, really frightening and he would not even go near it! Emile tried again, riding him really
strong and they made a giant leap over the water. Emile was extremely pleased that they had managed to
solve this difficulty, but he forgot to ride through the finish – which was pretty far away anyway. This meant a
disqualification, however, this did not alter the fact that Itabassi had jumped extraordinarily.

Kootwijk, 17 May

In Kootwijk Emile was to start both RVO’s Uutje and Silat in the show jumping 1.10m class and this show
counted as a selection for the important Outdoor Gelderland show. Only the four best combinations would
qualify and mind you, 152 combinations came to start. Emile and RVO’s Uutje were placed 5th, so they
were not allowed to go the Outdoor Gelderland show; however, given the strong competition, we think this is
an excellent performance. Silat also jumped a great clear first round as well as a clear jump-off, but Silat was
a full second slower than Uutje, nevertheless Emile was placed 6th with Silat.
We really think they did a great job, as the course was built pretty big and also included a water jump. Emile
managed to steer both horses again without a fault through the second course and with RVO’s Uutje he
managed to stay clear in the jump-off too in a really fast time. Eventually they were placed 4th. Silat kept us in
suspense, going very well until the very last fence which he knocked down. He had to settle for the 7th place.

Ermelo, 16 May

National NRPS Championships

Annemarie and Zidane SB became National Champions in the L1-class; both tests showed balance and
looseness, which the jury awarded with 198 points on both occasions. This was in both tests by far the
highest score, so they became the unchallenged champions.

Annemarie and Zidane SB

Once again Kirsten saddled up Sandron SB and not in vain. In their first Z-1 test they made some minor
errors, but nevertheless they were awarded with 206 points. In the second test they were really fine-tuned to
one another and they performed spectacularly well; with 215 points and a second place Kirsten and Sandron
became overall second in the National Championships.

The SB Stables Team had another cake in the oven, namely Eline Tonen and Rubilat SB. They too finished
overall second after two good tests, earning 196 and 187 points and being placed first and fourth respectively
in the novel B-class. In Ermelo this combination started outdoors for the very first time and we really think
they did a great job.

NRPS stands for Nederlands Rijpaarden en Pony Stamboek, (Dutch Ridinghorse and Pony Studbook)
therefore Emile also brought two ponies with him. Koralo SB once again scored a test point in the L-2 class
(first level, training for second) and in the first L-class show jumping course and the following jump-off they
went round beautifully and clear; unluckily Koralo shied and jumped forward, while knocking two fences
down in the second course. Itabassi SB was entered for the first time in the M-class and was just a bit
unlucky when he touched a rail on obstacle 5a. However, all contenders in this M-class made faults and in
the end the three combinations with only 4 faults were to ride in the jump-off. Emile and Itabassi SB really
went for it, but one of their competitors managed to ride a bit faster. Even so, we think an overall second
place is a very good result. All things considered, the SB Stables Team did a great job at the National
Championships for NRPS horses and ponies.

Kockengen, 16 May

Kirsten has passed the Orun exams with excellent marks for the theory and practical part level 2, so she is
now an official Orun instructor. Congratulations!

Kockengen/Utrecht, 3 May

Since the end of April, SB Stables have housed two very promising horses, the first being ‘Uutje’, an
absolute show jumper talent and Emile is thrilled and very proud and grateful that he is allowed to ride this
horse in shows. They are a perfect match, which was clear from the start: on Sunday 3 May they made their
debut as a combination in the L-class show jumping at Groenestein near Utrecht. A flawless and clear round
as well as a clear and fast jump-off was the result, good for a fifth place in the ranking. Viegro is the second
horse we welcomed; an elegant horse that will be performing in the dressage arena. Viegro was already
performing at M-2 level and Kirsten Brouwer intends to start him within a few weeks in the Z-1 class. She
too is overjoyed with this very good and promising horse; her new star for the future. Both Kirsten and Emile
are very grateful to John and Sandra Rijken van Olst, who made these horses available to them. In the sport
the horses will start under the names of RVO’s Uutje and RVO’s Viegro.

Utrecht, 3 May

Emile also brought his own horse Silat with him to Groenestein in Utrecht. Silat did very well; a clear round
and a very fast and clear jump-off resulted in the third prize.

Driebergen, 30 April

Today Emile took his mounts to Driebergen, where he started Itabassi SB for the first time in the M-1
dressage. In the second test the combination became officially M-1 registered, as he rode well enough to
bring home a test point. Itabassi SB did well too in the L-class show jumping: a clear first round, followed by
a clear jump-off resulted in the third prize. Emile did not make Itabassi go as fast as possible; the entire show
was way behind on schedule and by the time they were to start in the jump-off Emile had already been 4
hours in the saddle; Itabassi was visibly tired. Koralo SB only came to start in the classic course and showed
a neat and smooth round. After obstacle 9 he shied and dived to the left, but Emile quickly recovered, rode a
circle and continued without further problems.

Driebergen, 29 April

The day before Queens Day, Annemarie rode Zidane SB for the first time of the year in an outdoor show.
The show in Driebergen was well-organized and it was a pleasure to start there. During the warm-up Zidane
SB made a lot of fuss and wasted a great deal of energy. Even so, they were awarded 211 points in the first
test, which was good enough for the first prize, and in the second test they earned 198 points – even though
Zidane was weary – good for the second prize.

Uden, 11 April

Today the first selection for the Dutch Championships for the ZZ Light class (third level progressing towards
fourth level) took place in Uden. Kirsten rode Velvet Dream and they performed excellently! No less than
nearly 66% and 64%, this earned them the first and second prize, respectively, in a field of 35 contenders.
Absolutely fantastic!

Lisse, 5 April

Emile took Silat SB with him to Lisse. In the classic course they managed to stay clear, but in the jump-off
one rail fell. The result was a fourth place, which definitely satisfied Emile. In the progressive speed course the
obstacles were pretty high; but Emile and Silat SB were in good shape and stayed in the clear, in a super
time. Nobody was able to improve on this time, so Emile brought home the orange rosette that goes with the
first prize.

Lisse, 4 April

Emile and Koralo SB took it nice and easy on Saturday in Lisse. Koralo SB was not entirely focussed yet in
the classic course, he looked round too much at everything and was a bit too tense in the back. This caused
him two faults, but he recovered well and jumped a clear round in the second course in a time that was fast
enough to earn him first place.

Nieuwe Wetering, 4 April

Today Annemarie and Special SB made their debut in the third level Z-2 class. Special SB has a superb, well
-balanced trot, which is confirmed and sure, however, the gallop and especially the change of leads still cause
problems. The mare is very sensitive to the leg and started bucking a number of times during this part of the
test, even though the changes themselves are always fine. With scores of 212 and 214 Annemarie and
Special SB ended twice in the second place. We have no doubts that the scores will go up significantly when
the changes of leads become confirmed.

Bunschoten, 28 March

Not only ponies, but also horses came to the start in Bunschoten and Emile took Silat SB for the L-class
show. A clear round and a clear jump-off were good for a first place; sadly Emile steered Silat SB towards a
wrong obstacle during the jump-off of the two-phase course. Nevertheless, the jumping itself went absolutely
perfect.

Bunschoten, 27 March

On Friday evening a pony show was organized in Bunschoten Spakenburg at the premises of the Gouden
Adelaar. Emile was in perfect shape and won not only the classic course including the jump-off, but also the
two-phase course. Itabassi SB, who did so very well at the Dutch Championships, only gets better and
better. Emile also brought Koralo SB to the start in the L-level show, however this pony is still very
inexperienced and is distracted by a lot of things. In both courses he knocked down two obstacles.

Emmen, 22 March
At the Equestrian Centre Emmen today a subtop show was organized during which Kirsten first rode into the
arena with Opus One SB. They showed two near perfect tests in the ZZ Advanced class, with extremely
good series, an incredible extended trot and a fantastic extended walk. They were awarded with 63.71% and
60.00%, respectively, winning both tests.
Also Velvet Dream SB was brought along to this show. In the first test she showed a lot of anxiety and the
total score of 60.00% reflected this, resulting in a mere 6th place. During the second test Velvet Dream SB
had settled and relaxed as a result of which the overall image showed looseness and balance. The jury
awarded this test with 63.07%, which brought this combination to a shared second place.

Ermelo, 21 March
Dutch Show Jumping Championships for ponies

Finally the big day had arrived: the National Dutch Show Jumping Championships for ponies. Emile had to
walk the course at 10.45 am and at 11.30 am they went into the arena. What a beautiful flawless ride! 14 of
the 30 contenders stayed clear, which promised an exciting jump-off. Emile and Itabassi were the 8th
combination to start; up till then no-one had managed to stay in the clear. Itabassi SB too touched wood and
a rail fell off. The end result for Emile and his pony was a 6th place in the indoor L-class show jumping for
D/E ponies, well done indeed!

Harmelen, 20 March

Today at the Equestrian Centre Harmelen, Velvet Dream SB made her debut in the ZZ Light class (third level
progressing towards fourth level) with Kirsten in the saddle. Although Velvet generally moved smoothly, at
some moments a little bit of tension would occur and some minor errors were made. Even so, we are
extremely pleased with the result, no less than 62.71% was the score, good for a third prize.

Houten, 15 March

At Equestrian Centre Groenraven, Zidane SB made his comeback in the dressage competition under
Annemarie, who will be training Zidane SB for the next level. The combination was cool and relaxed and
achieved 202 points and a first prize. As the stallion was not in great shape yet, Annemarie had decided to
ride only one test.

Ermelo, 8 March

Kirsten started Oswin and Opus One SB today in Ermelo. Opus One showed a fine first test, in the second
some minor errors were made due to a bit of tension. The scores were 64.19% and 60.17%, which was
definitely not bad. Oswin made his debut in the ZZ Advanced (Prix St. George level); in the first test he
performed really well, in the second a few careless errors were made. Nevertheless, their performances were
awarded 64.19% and 60.86, respectively, which meant that Kirsten claimed a shared first prize in the first
test, whereas in the second test Oswin became second and Opus One third! The newspaper De
Paardenkrant and the magazine Het Sportpaard wrote very positive articles about this successful day.

Wanroij, 7 March

Velvet Dream and Kirsten were allowed to come to the start today at the Dutch Championships. Velvet
moved balanced and elegantly, but became a bit too anxious during the gallop. Sadly also the extended trot
was not quite as good as we know she is capable of. The score was 63% and they were placed 14th out of
30 contenders.

De Meern, 7 March

Emile started both his Itabassi and Koralo today in the show jumping ring, this time in De Meern at the show
of the Voornruiters. He sure showed them that it is fully justified that he was chosen by the Utrecht province
to represent them at the Dutch National Championship L-class for ponies. Both ponies stayed clear in the
first round and Emile steered Itabassi to a super fast time in the jump-off which nobody could beat, so once
again he took home the orange rosette for the first prize. Also in the second course, which was immediately
ridden on time, nobody was able to beat Emile, only this time Koralo was the faster of the two ponies. In this
show Emile won both the first and second prize!

Emile Brouwer takes reserve champion
title show jumping class L

Emile and Itabassi SB

On Saturday 28 February the regional championships for ponies were held for the classes L to ZZ at the
Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten. Emile Brouwer (15 years old) from Kockengen rode his two young ponies
Itabassi SB and Koralo SB. Both ponies are still a bit inexperienced, but have absolutely the potential needed
to go much further in this sport under their young owner. Emile and Itabassi SB were to start first and finished
beautifully without any faults. With Koralo SB Emile had the 7th starting position; this pony is still a bit
spooked, but was also placed for the jump-off after a clear round. 7 out of the 14 combinations that came to
the start for the province of Utrecht managed a clear round and were entitled to start in the jump-off. Emile
had to start first with Itabassi SB. They went round as fast as lightning, taking every turn as sharply as
possible; unfortunately one rail fell in the double. The time that the clock showed was not beaten by anyone.
Koralo SB, who is still a bit unsure and nervous in the arena, knocked down one rail too and he went round
two seconds slower than Itabassi SB. Nevertheless Emile was placed first and second with his two ponies,
until Katie Werring, the second last to start, came into the ring with her E-pony Chica Bella; she knew that
the title would be hers if she managed a clear round. She remained cool under the intense pressure and
although she rode nearly 4 seconds slower than Emile, she and Chica Bella remained faultless. That is sport,
excitement and great fun. Both Katie and Emile will represent the province of Utrecht on 21 March 2009 in
Ermelo at the Dutch National championships in the L-class show jumping.

Emile and Koralo SB

Geldrop, 15 February

Kirsten started Oswin today in Geldrop at a subtop show. Both tests were accomplished smoothly, with only
a few minor errors. In the first test they were awarded no less than 66%, which was good for a third prize in
a strong field of competitors. In the second test they achieved a score of 63.97%, which was nevertheless
good for the first place!

Bunschoten, 14 February

Kirsten and Velvet Dream SB regional champion Z-2!!

Last Saturday, on Valentine’s Day, the Utrecht Regional Championships were held in Bunschoten. After
achieving the championship of the Eastern Circle with two horses placed first in the Z-1 class (third level),
Annemarie now started with two inexperienced horses at Stal Groenendaal. Sandron SB, not even six years
of age, was very frightened in the arena; he is still very green, but learned a lot today. Despite the tension
Annemarie achieved the 9th place with him. Her other horse, Special SB, was also a little anxious in the
indoor ring, which was magnificently decorated, but he marched on steadily. Their performance was awarded
with a 4th place, which meant that they were invited to join in the prize ceremony. Kirsten rode a fine Z-1 test
with Winse Boy SB, who is only 5½ years old, resulting in a 5th prize.

Kirsten and Velvet started in the Z-2 class (third level). Halfway through this classic test the sun came out,
which caused scary light spots to appear in the corner on the surface; as a consequence three components of
the test went completely wrong. Fortunately, Velvet recovered very well and the rest of the test showed a
well-balanced and elegant performance. Despite the tension they were awarded with a score of 62.65%,
which was good for the first place in the interim ranking.
Kirsten and Velvet were to start second in the musical freestyle, which went marvellously; all the components
were performed at the exact timing and they were awarded no less than 67.25%! With an average of nearly
65% Kirsten and Velvet gained the title of Utrecht Regional Champion and on 7 March they will come to the
start in Wanroy at the Dutch National Championships.

Prize awarding ceremony of Kirsten and Velvet Dream SB after winning the Z-2 Dressage Championships.

Houten, 18 January

.

Today the selections for the Indoor Championships took place. Kirsten started Winse Boy in the Z-1 (third

level) and Velvet Dream SB in the Z-2 (third level). Winse Boy did absolutely marvellous, which showed in

the results: 1st placed and 233 points.  In the second test he made some errors and the score was 205 points.

Velvet also did well in the Z-2 class, although she was a bit tense in the second test. Nevertheless the results

were fantastic, a first and second prize with 225 and 219 points respectively!

Kirsten has qualified with both Winse Boy and Velvet Dream for the Utrecht Regional Championships!

De Meern, 17 January

.

In De Meern a pony dressage competition was organized today. After a year of various successive injuries

Itabassi SB was finally ready to start again. Emile and Itabassi started in the L-2 class and they certainly did

well: placed first in both tests, with 189 and 194 points, respectively. Emile also did well with Koralo; in the

same L-2 dressage class they earned 182 and 191 points.

Zwolle, 11 January

Today was a big day: the Moorland Dressage Event during the Zwolle International Show. Kirsten took

Oswin with her and started him in the ZZ Light (third level progressing towards fourth level). The test went

superbly, but unfortunately they made a small error during the counter canter. Even so, the total score was an

amazing 65.35%, which was good for a second place in a very strong competition. The first place

was for Kirsten’s namesake Kirsten Beckers, who rode the well-known licensed stallion Broere Ufo.  A

great day for Stal Brouwers!

Bunschoten, 10 January

In Bunschoten-Spakenburg the selection tests were ridden for Z-1 and Z-2 classes for the Eastern Circle.

Annemarie brought two horses with her to start in the Z-1 class (third level); Sandron SB, a nearly six-year-

old gelding by Sandro Song, won the first test convincingly with no less than 225 points, even though the

combination needed an extra round through the ring at the start because Sandron SB was a bit anxious. In the

second test Sandron SB was still a bit tense due to the noisy surroundings. However, the result was

worthwhile: a third place with 219 points.

Annemarie’s other horse, Special SB, did particularly well in the first test in which they achieved a fourth

place with 215 pointsAlthough they made some minor errors in the second test, they came second with

219 points. This means that both horses have been qualified for the Regional Championships.

Hulten, 4 January

As of today Sandron SB has officially the Z-1 status (third level). Annemarie rode him in what would be a

very smooth and elegant test, resulting in 207 points and a second place. No less than 12 combinations

started in Hulten in the Z-1 class. Due to the really horrible weather only one test was ridden. Annemarie also

rode Special SB and with their 206 points they could pick up the white rosette that comes with a third place.

Harmelen, 3 January

In the Equestrian Centre Harmelen the second competition test for the CHIO Cup was organized today and

Kirsten came to the start with Oswin in the Young Riders Class. It was the very first time that the riders had

to ride the new FEI tests. Kirsten and Oswin did quite well, although a couple of errors could be observed.

They were awarded 62.11%, which meant an 11th place on the list. Quite an achievement for this young

combination. It was sad to notice the major differences in the judging: one jury placed Kirsten 3rd,

whereas the other placed this relatively inexperienced combination second last! Nevertheless, the Stal

Brouwer Team considered the day as an excellent day. Next week, Sunday 11 January, Kirsten and Oswin

will start at the Zwolle International Show in the ZZ light class (third level progressing towards fourth level).
