Bunschoten, 7 March, Groenendaal Stables

Emile took Silat and RVO’s Uutje to competition today and both horses jumped marvellously. Silat jumped a
clear round in the 1.20 m class and had the fastest time in the jump-off, but, alas, one rail went down,
resulting in the 6th place. Then Emile started Silat in the 1.30 m class and not only did they stay clear in the
first round, but in the jump-off as well, and they put the fastest time on the clock!
Uutje also jumped superbly in the 1.30 m class. He too went clear in the jump-off, and with a slightly slower
time than Silat, Uutje took home the 2nd prize.

Silat (Ferro x Cantor) showjumping
Bunschoten, 20 February

Today the Z-1 and Z-2 classes (third level) were ridden for the regional Utrecht championships.
Unfortunately the warm-up arena was a big disaster; it was even smaller than it was the Friday before, due to
the size of the arena needed for the Z-classes. It was whispered in the corridors that it will be organized
differently next year, which would definitely be much appreciated. Annemarie started RVO’s Viegro in the Z-
1 class; the bay gelding does his level best at home and answers better and better to the subtlest commands.
However, he still scares easily, particularly in indoor competitions. Today was no different and the results
were 201 and 203 points, respectively. Once he has gotten over his spookiness, he will be an absolute
winner.

Zandafanory and Kirsten performed fantastically. This mare has improved so much in such a short time; she is
completely relaxed, never spooks and is incredibly eager to learn. Zanda, as we call her, has lots of potential
and three strong and balanced gaits. During the test, Kirsten made a small mistake and took the wrong turn.
This cost her dearly: -2 points from both juries, which made her lose the championship. 217 and 233 points,
respectively, were now good for the Utrecht Reserve championship, which is still a top performance.
Kirsten and Zandafanory will compete at the Dutch championships in Wanroy on 13 March.
We enjoyed the prize giving ceremony for Kirsten and Zandafanory so much that we completely forgot the
time. This was bad, because Annemarie had to ride Special SB in the Z-2 class (third level) and this mare has
an unbelievable amount of energy. She really needs an hour for her warm-up to drain off some of the energy
surplus. Annemarie started with the warm-up only 25 minutes before the test, and the result was clearly
visible: a very tense horse, with a barely controllable drive forward. This did not reflect the normal capacities
of this fine mare; Annemarie had to slow her down all the time and Special SB became too short in the neck,
which is of course severely punished at this level. This was really disappointing because the combination
usually makes a very elegant impression and it is not for nothing that they earned the title of Eastern Regional
Champion.

Bunschoten, 19 February

Eline started Rubilat SB in the L-2 class (second level) during the evening hours of the regional Utrecht
championships. It was very difficult to do a proper warm-up, because there were too many horses in a too
small area. Nevertheless, Eline and Rubilat SB performed nicely and ended on the 14th place.

Houten, 12 February

Emile took Silat and Uutje with him to the Utrecht regional show jumping championships. The Z-class (1.30
m) started at 8.30 pm and the walls of the indoor hall were beautifully decorated with white cloth. Many
horses however thought that this was very frightening and so did Silat. Only the week before he jumped a
spectacular and clear round in the same arena, but then there were no white cloths on the walls. Silat did not
like it at all, jumped reluctantly, and with 17 penalty points the combination was not allowed to continue in the
jump-off. Uutje on the other hand, didn’t seem to notice the veiled walls at all and jumped a clear first round.
In the second phase he knocked down one rail, which caused him 4 penalty points. Overall, only one rider
had two clear rounds, and five riders had 4 penalty points. So based on the time set in the first round, Emile
and Uutje became 6th at the Utrecht regional championships. We think this is a fantastic result!

Nieuw en St. Joosland, 7 February

Kirsten took Travers and Sandron SB with her to Nieuw en St. Joosland. Travers showed that he has
improved a lot, the trotting reprises were very good and well-balanced and the tempi changes were much
better too. Regrettably, Travers spooked a bit when entering the arena, as well as during the performance of
the turns on the haunches, resulting in unsatisfactory marks. In addition, the juries had given rather varying
marks, and the total score was unsatisfactory, so no test points were gained. Sandron showed a well-
balanced test without major errors; only in the walk he remained a bit tense. Kirsten achieved a 4th place
with him, with nearly 63% in a strong field of competitors.
Afterwards, the jury told Kirsten that she had two very talented young horses that simply need to gain more
experience. Gregor Tacx won this class with a very good test with his Uchenna, who is by Polansky.

Houten, 7 February

Today Emile and Silat went to Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten, where they participated in the 1.30 m Z-class. They
stayed clear in the first round, but knocked off two rails in the jump-off. Uutje too was in good condition, but
alas, the final line, a triple combination followed by one vertical on four strides, proved tricky and two rails
were knocked off.

Wormerveer, 6 February

During the evening hours a musical kür was on the programme for Special SB. It was the first time for this
mare and she was a bit tense. Nevertheless, she responded well to Annemarie and showed a nice test that
was awarded with 62.16% and a 6th place. Annemarie forgot to take her bridle with her and a big ‘thank
you’ to Lotje Schoots is in place, who was kind enough to lend Annemarie a double bridle so she could still
ride the test.

Boxtel, 30 January

Despite heavy snowfall we left for Boxtel with Sandron SB and Travers. For Sandron it was his first ZZ Light
test and he was a bit reluctant during the first test. The second went much better, with only a bit of tension
during the walk. The result was a 4th prize with 60%, and a 1st prize with 62.26%! Needless to say that we
were very pleased with this debut.
Travers showed some very good parts in both tests, but also some tension, particularly in the second test.
Nevertheless he was awarded with a 3rd prize and 62.26% for his first test.

Houten, 24 January

The 6-year-old gelding Zowie (Painted Black x Crack C), who will be trained by the Stal Brouwer Team for
the purpose of sale, competed today for the very first time of his life in a dressage competition. The show at
the Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten was also a qualifying test for the regional championships for the M-2 class
(second level) and Zowie behaved perfectly, showing two fine and well-balanced tests. The combination was
awarded 183 and 187 points, respectively, and took home the 2nd prize in both tests. Even more, this
combination is allowed to compete at the regional championships, which will be held at Groenendaal Stables
in Bunschoten.

Bunschoten, 23 January

Today in Bunschoten Spakenburg already the second qualifying competition for the Z-1 and Z-2 classes was
organised. Annemarie and Special SB won their first test in the Z-2 class with 219 points. This meant they
became Regional champion and secured a starting position for the Provincial championships on 20 February.

For Viegro it was the first qualifying competition on Z-1 level. During the first test he moved smoothly and
relaxed and he ended 2nd with 211 points. During the second test he spooked, but Annemarie skilfully
managed to keep him focused on his job and is also allowed to take this horse with her to the Provincial
championships.

Kirsten and Sandron SB also started in a qualifying competition on Z-2 level, but at a different location.
Regrettably, this combination did not qualify for the regional championships. We think it is a disgrace to the
basic dressage sports competition when a fantastically large-moving horse, that shows a flawless test and
comes up into the bridle beautifully and quietly, does not qualify for a championship. However, it is and
remains a jury sport and we have no other choice than to accept that. We are of the opinion that the Region
South organisation should implement some adjustments in order to improve the routine of the qualifying
competition.
Sandron SB and Kirsten will start in February on ZZ Light level (third level progressing towards fourth). With
Zandafanory, Kirsten did manage to qualify for the regional championships; in the Z-1 class she once again
achieved the 3rd place with 214 points in an elegant and consistent test.

Amsterdam, 21 January, Jumping Amsterdam

Finally, today was the big day! Emile was to ride in the big international Jumping Amsterdam Horse Show. At
the last moment the decision was made to take RVO’s Uutje with him, as Silat did not seem to be that fit.
We left early at 9.30 am for Amsterdam, so we would have plenty of time to explore the scene and taste the
atmosphere at the stands. At half past noon Emile walked the course, while Kirsten and Annemarie started
preparing Uutje. At 1.30 pm it was Emile’s big moment. The course was built to the maximum height and
Uutje often jumped even 30 centimetres higher than necessary. This was too bad really, because it made him
come too close to the fences on two occasions, knocking off a rail. But all in all a super experience!
Uutje (Jumping Amsterdam)

Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, 17 January

In Oudekerk aan de Amstel a show-jumping competition was organised up to and including the 1.30 m Z-
class. Emile decided to start Silat in a one-round classical style 1.20 m course as a preparation for Thursday
21 January, when he will start during the international Jumping Amsterdam Horse Show. They went round
beautifully and settled for the 2nd place.
Emile started also with Uutje and this second 1.20 m course was immediately ridden on time. Emile steered
Uutje smoothly and fast to a 1st prize. He then started Uutje also in a 1.30 m classical style course and
became 1st in this competition too, despite the fact that Uutje knocked off a rail. All contenders had at least
one fault!

Houten, 16 January

Today the first qualification for the Z-1 and Z-2 classes (third level) was to be ridden in the build-up to the
Southern regional championships. Kirsten took a new horse, the 6-year-old Zandafanory, with her to the
Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten. Everything went fantastically; they achieved a well-deserved 3rd place with 206 and
209 points, respectively. A dream debut! Kirsten also came to the start with Sandron SB in the Z-2 class.
We thought he performed absolutely fine, but unfortunately, this was not the opinion of the jury: disappointing
scores of 204 and 216 were given.

Bunschoten, 9 January

The first qualifying competition for the Provincial championships for the Z-1 and Z-2 class was held today for
the Eastern region in the Gouden Adelaar in Bunschoten Spakenburg. It was the first time in nine months that
Annemarie brought out Special SB again and boy did that go well! In the first test in the Z-2 class (third level)
they won convincingly with 219 points. Special lacked condition and that meant that the second test was in
fact too much for him. He was a bit tired and received only 209 points, which meant a 6th place. All other
competitions were cancelled that weekend, due to extremely bad weather.
