Oudkarspel, 28 December
.
On Saturday evening the visitors of Indoor Beukers were able to enjoy a musical freestyle in which Kirsten
and Velvet took part in the Z-2 class. The riding hall was beautifully decorated and many combinations made
their entrée. Kirsten and Velvet Dream performed like a dream! Velvet took no notice of all the
embellishments and the result was a magnificent score of 66.63%. This meant that Kirsten and Jeanette
Bouwman had equal results; however, Jeanette was awarded slightly higher points for the artistic impression,
so Kirsten was down to the second prize. Yet, a great outcome and Velvet took a beautiful presentation
show rug home as a reward.
Oude Tonge, 20-21 December
This weekend the Sub-top selections took place in Oude Tonge. On Saturday Kirsten started her Oswin in
the ZZ light class. Regrettably, the judges differed with 15 points significantly in their judgments; the total
score turned out to be 61.71%, which resulted in a 5th place. The second test saw a better result: a score
of nearly 64% was good enough for a 2nd place!
On Sunday Kirsten rode Opus One SB in the ZZ Advanced class (Prix St George level) and they made a
very good impression in the first test, achieving 63.23% and a second place. Opus One SB made no
errors in the second test either, however, he was a bit tired and that showed. Again the combination was
ranked second, this time with 62.57%. A very successful selection weekend!
Harmelen, 29 November
Equestrian Centre Harmelen organized a Sub-top competition today. Kirsten took Opus One SB with her to
compete in the ZZ Advanced class (Prix St George level). They started in two tests and were rewarded with
scores of 63.06% and 63.29% respectively, in both fields a second place. Kirsten and Opus need to work a
bit more on the pirouettes, but ‘eights’ were awarded for the walk, extended canter and also for a
half pass in canter!
Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, 23 November
Today the selection show for Jumping Amsterdam was held in Ouderkerk a/d Amstel. Emile started Silat SB
in the L-class show jumping (1.10m) for the very first time. He rode a fantastic clear round, followed by a
well-ridden ride-off. Unfortunately after a very short cut, Silat refused. Despite this one fault, they performed
great! A very good debut for this combination.
Soest, 22 November
Emile entered the show jumping contest in Soest today with his Koralo SB in the B class. After a beautifully
ridden clear round Emile received the first prize with 56 points awarded for his style. In the second round
they performed absolutely great once more: again this combination received the first prize, this time with 53
points for style.
Bodegraven, 7-8 November
This weekend the Indoor Bodegraven took place. On Friday Kirsten started WB-Zorg Zephir in the L-2
class (first level, training for second). This was only the second time ever that Zephir was taken to a show,
but he behaved as if it were a daily routine to him. This large indoor event had only one dressage test for this
level and Kirsten and Zephir showed a very good and consistent performance,
which resulted in a first prize with no less than 196 points!
Blaricum, 27 September
The Stad en Lande Ruiters organized an excellent competition in Blaricum and not for the first time! The
grounds were spacious and the possibilities for the warming up were fabulous. Emile and Koralo participated
in the L-1 dressage class and achieved a record amount of 212 points and a first place. In the
second test they managed to get 184 points, which meant that Emile earned no less than 4
test points in one day! Annemarie and Special SB were also in great shape; in their first test
(Z-1 class) they achieved a second place with 214 points. The second test was even better, the
trotting part went particularly well and they were awarded with 218 points and a first place on the list.
Although the mare was very tense during the tests, she behaved absolutely fine.
23 September
Today Kirsten received a letter from the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation that she
has been selected – again! – for the Rabobank Winter Training scheme.

Hoogland, 20 September
Kirsten and Velvet made their Z-2 debut (third level) today. In the first test, which was part of the Hoefslag
Cup Competition, they made some unnecessary mistakes; they received 219 points which resulted in a mere
6th place. Kirsten and Velvet got their act together in the second test; the result of 227 points was good
enough for the highest place on the stand.

Dutch Open Championships 2008
Ermelo, 12-13 September
On Friday 12 and Saturday 13 September, the National Equestrian Championships were held at the
premises of the Federation Centre in Ermelo. Kirsten qualified in July for the Nationals by winning the
Utrecht Regional Championships with her horse Velvet Dream SB in the Z-1 class.
On the first day of the National Championships the combination qualified for the big finale,
which was to be ridden on Saturday. She made an excellent impression with a flawless and
smooth test, achieving a score of 65.90%. Then a nerve-racking period of waiting started;
as Kirsten had drawn a second starting position many riders were to follow. Eventually
only 2 combinations rode a better test, which meant that Kirsten and Velvet took a bronze medal home!
An incredible feat!
Huizen, 30-31 August
The annual two-day event of the Gooische Jachtvereniging in Huizen was organized during this last
weekend of August. It was the first time that Kirsten took WB-Zorg Zephir with her, but he behaved
wonderfully and wasn’t impressed at all. Both L-1 tests resulted in a first prize, with 201 and 204 points,
respectively.Annemarie started her horse Special in the Z-1 class, but made quite a few small errors in the
first test. Fortunately the second test went much better and they were awarded 213 points.

Utrecht, 25 and 26 July 2008
On 25 and 26 July the Regional championships Utrecht took place. Emile, teamed up with his pony Koralo,
took the champion title home in the class B (beginners) dressage. He rode two fine and correct tests. In
addition, Kirsten and her Velvet Dream equestrian event Hippiade. became champion too! They started in
the dressage class Z-1 (third level) and scored no less than 3% more than the runner-up. Annemarie and her
horse Sandron were also very successful in the championships; they managed to qualify for the Dutch
championships in the M-1 class (second level). Zidane did however, this class will not be ridden at the great
Dutch a fantastic job as well; he became third in the overall L-1 ranking, Kirsten and Annemarie will
participate in the Hippiade on 12 and 13 September, with Velvet Dream and Sandron respectively. The
Hippiade takes place in the equestrian capital of Holland: Ermelo.

and Emile Brouwer Province of Utrecht Champion B dressage.
Odijk, 14 June 2008
Today the selection tests of the East/South Circle Utrecht took place in Odijk. Stal Brouwer brought seven
horses with them to compete.
Kirsten started three horses: Velvet Dream had to do his job in the pouring rain, nevertheless he performed
fantastically in the Z1 class (third level), which led to a result of two times first, with a record number of
points: 246 and 233. Kirsten also brought the stallion Zidane SB in the ring for two L-1 tests and rode
beautifully. Again, she was the best. They scored 202 and 204 points in the L-1 class (first level). Then
Kirsten rode Winse Boy in the L-2 class (first level, training for second level) and Winse did well too. He
gathered 205 and 206 points, good for a first and second placing respectively. Annemarie as well took three
horses with her to compete in Odijk. She and Special SB started in the Z-1 dressage (third level). Special
has clearly improved a lot. The combination was awarded with 212 and 216 points, which meant a second
and third place. Sandron SB was entered in the M-1 class (second level), but unfortunately he paid more
attention to the sheep in the adjacent field than to his rider. Nevertheless they managed to gather 186 and
200 points, which resulted in a sixth and a second prize.
Silat was Annemarie’s last horse for the day and was started in the Z-2 dressage (third level); they were
awarded with 204 and 215 points, which was good for a sixth place in both cases.
Emile Brouwer and his pony Koralo SB started in the B dressage for ponies and showed what they were
worth. They were very pleased with a first place (203 points) and a fourth place (187 points).
Hoofddorp, 13 June 2008
Kirsten took Winse Boy SB with her to the Concourse Hoofddorp to start in the L-2 dressage (first level,
training for second level). It was quite some time since Winse had last seen the little white fences and to
prepare him properly for the selection competition that was programmed a day after, he was taken to
Hoofddorp. He did extremely well, earned 199 and 195 points and took home a red rosette (second place)
and white rosette (third place).
Gelderland, 4 June 2008
Today the Moorland Dressage Event took place during the Outdoor Gelderland show. The entourage was
splendid and the atmosphere could not have been better. Kirsten rode Opus One SB in the ZZ Advanced
(Prix St George level). They did very well and returned home happily with a score of 61.7%.
Amersfoort, 25 May 2008
Sandron SB and Annemarie performed today for the first time in the M-1 class (third level). The competition
was held in Marcroix, the former military riding school, in Amersfoort. They did very well and the outcome
was 197 and 209 points; both scores were worth the first place.
Ermelo, 17 May 2008
Today the Dutch Riding Horse and Pony Studbook (NRPS) organized its National Championships in the
Equestrian Federation Centre in Ermelo. It was a first time out for Kirsten with Zidane SB and they couldn’t
be happier with the results: 203 and 189 points meant they took home the National Champion L-1 title (first
level). Kirsten also rode Velvet Dream SB in the Z-1 class (third level) and achieved a second and a first
place (207 and 217 points). This resulted in a second placing in the overall list of rankings. Annemarie rode
Sandron SB in the L-2 class (first level, training for second level); Sandron SB performed smoothly and
consistently and was awarded 191 and 203 points. This lead to a third place in the overall list of rankings.
We have every reason to be proud of our athletes.
Abcoude, 1 May 2008
Emile and his Itabassi SB came to the start today during the CH Abcoude. They were not really focussed
during the first test, nevertheless the result was a second place and 188 points. They recovered and paid
more attention throughout the second test and this was all that was needed to win outright, earning a fantastic
203 points.
Hulten, 27 April 2008
Kirsten and Opus One SB made their debut today in the ZZ Advanced (Prix St George level) in Hulten.
They did well and scored 60. 97%, which resulted in a fifth place! Not bad for a debut. The second test went
less good; some errors were made during the pirouettes, which meant they were awarded slightly less than
60%. Nevertheless the team went home contentedly at the end of the day.
Huizen, 13 April 2008

Special SB
.
The kick-off in Huizen was a huge success for Brouwer Stables! Annemarie and Special SB made their
debut in the Z1 class (third level). They scored 209 points twice, which put them into second place. Special
SB has no show experience at all, so the combination needs to be fine-tuned in the ring. Moreover, this mare
is extremely sensitive to the leg and can respond vehemently to it.
.
Kirsten and Velvet SB took home two first prizes in the Z-1 class; a fantastic score of 227 in the first test and
214 in the second. Well done!
.

Velvet Dream SB
Today Silat SB made his come-back in the arena, ridden by his regular rider Annemarie in the Z-2 class
(third level). After a year of illness the grey is still not back to his old level with regard to the build-up of his
muscles, but did he try! Great success for them too, twice the first prize with 204 and 209 scores,
respectively. A very good first start after such a long absence.

Silat SB
.
Houten, 6 April 2008
.
Opus One SB did very well at the sub-top competition in Houten. The first test was ridden indoors, which
caused a bit of tension. Nevertheless, the result was a second place with a score of 62.14%. The second test
was held outdoors; again Kirsten and Opus One SB were placed second, this time scoring 61.76%.
Abcoude, 29 March 2008
.
After a time-out due to injury, Itabassi SB competed in the L-2 class (first level, training for second), ridden
by Emile. We were very pleased with the results: twice placed second, with 191 and 194 points,
respectively.
Again, a good start to a new season.
.
Arnhem, 3 February
.
Kirsten and Velvet Dream SB back on their level! The very sensitive and spooky Velvet Dream SB and
Kirsten once again scored mega high points. In Luttenberg, where the selections for the Zwolle International
show took place, the competition was really strong. Even so the combination was awarded with 213 points in
the Z-1 (third level) and was placed fifth. Velvet was really tense, but she did show a lot of improvement in
this respect. This was shown even more clearly in Arnhem on 3 February: 220 and 214 points respectively,
resulting in two first prizes. The judge praised the combination and called Velvet Dream SB a “happy
athlete”. When we get rid of the tension in Velvet, the points can only go upward!
Houten, 3 February
Emile and Itabassi SB jumped a good round in the classic program at Zilfia’s Hoeve, with unfortunately one
fence down. They stayed clear though in the progressive round and qualified for the jump-off. Emile and
Itabassi went really fast through the course, but the speed cost them dearly: one fence down. Nevertheless
we think they did very well! .
Bunchoten, 2 February
.
Today Emile and Itabassi SB started in the L-2 class (first level) in the section D pony class at the regional
championships. The results were a bit disappointing; Emile’s pony is only five years old and lacks experience.
So the beautifully decorated arena was far too exciting for him and Emile had his hands full when steering
Itabassi SB through the course. A pity, but this is all part of the game.
26-27 January
Sandron SB and Winse Boy SB are both qualified for the Regional Championships! During the second
qualifying selection Annemarie and Sandron SB were placed in the top 11 and this meant they obtained their
qualifications to ride at the Regional Championships. Kirsten and Winse Boy SB made it even clearer that
they deserved the qualifications: the combination was placed second twice and thus assured their starting
place at the Regional Championships.
Woudenberg, 12 January
Today Annemarie and Sandron SB entered the arena in Woudenberg, where the first qualification
competition for the Eastern region L-2 competition (first level) was held. The results were excellent, Sandron
SB performed very well, which resulted in 187 and 192 points, respectively, and two fourth places
Deurne, Sunday 10 January
Kirsten started Opus One SB in the Indoor Deurne competition in the ZZ-medium (between third and fourth
level). Although it was two months ago since Kirsten had entered Opus in a competition, he behaved
absolutely fine. They made some minor mistakes, due to tense nerves; nevertheless, the results were two well
-ridden tests, resulting in 63.71% and 63.38%. These percentages were good for a fantastic second and
fourth place respectively. Kirsten and Opus will soon step up a class in the Dutch competition to ZZ-
advanced, which is equal to level four competitions. Opus knows how to perform the tempi changes superbly
and the combination is working hard to further improve the pirouettes.
Zoelen, Saturday 9 January
.
Today Kirsten started Velvet Dream SB in the Z-1 class (third level) in Zoelen. The first test went very well,
including some extremely good parts. Despite some tension Velvet moved well, resulting in a first place with
219 points! The second test was slightly disappointing: Velvet was clearly tired and this led to minor
mistakes. All the same the resulting points were not too bad: 206 points!
.
Bunschoten, 8 January
.
Today the Regional Championships of the province of Utrecht took place at Groenendaal Stables in
Bunschoten. Annemarie started Sandron SB and Kirsten entered with Winse Boy SB in the L-2 class (first
level, training for second). The preparation for the test was very hard: too many horses in too small a
paddock. This meant we could not prepare the horses as we would have liked. Annemarie and Sandron
were one of the first combinations to start. All of a sudden, people behind the judge’s box started making a
racket. Sandron was scared to death and would no longer pass by the judge’s box on the short side of the
arena. The people were kicking up such a racket that the principle judgehad to step out of the judge’s box
three times to urge them to be quiet. The judge even sought contact via telephone with the region
representative of the Dutch Equestrian Society that this was absolutely not done during Championships.
Unfortunately, Sandron would not relax, which of course
influenced the test adversely. Regrettably, the regional board did not respond adequately to this awkward
situation. Such a situation should not be allowed during regional championships and we can only hope that the
society will take measures to prevent this from happening again.
Kirsten and Winse Boy SB started a bit later and did absolutely fine. Winse moved with great rhythm and
plenty of impulsion. The principal judge awarded the combination with no less than 190 points, whereas the
other judge only gave 177 points. Of course we do not agree with the latter and we feel that such a big
differencein amount of points should not occur during championships. We will keep to our track and continue
training towards the M level (second level)!
Bunschoten, 5 January
Today the qualification for the L-2 class (first level, training for second) of the Southern region took place and
here Kirsten and Winse Boy SB entered to try and qualify. It had been quite a while since Winse Boy SB
had participated in a show. The beautifully decorated walls of the indoor arena at Groenendaal Stables
caused a lot of tension in many horses; but not in Winse Boy SB! He simply passed by as if he had known
the place for years. Nevertheless, they made some minor mistakes during the first test and were placed
seventh with 189 points. The second test went far better; here again 189 points, but this time Kirsten and
Winse Boy were placed fourth!
Bunschoten,, 4 January
Today the selections for the Z1 and Z-2 classes (third level) took place for the Southern region at
Groenendaal Stables in Bunschoten. Kirsten entered both Velvet Dream SB and Welcome SB. Velvet
Dream SB (Z-1) was very spooky, which caused a lot of tension during the test. Despite the tension the
result was good and they obtained a test point. Welcome SB (Z-2) needs a bit more fine-tuning. There was a
bit of miscommunication between rider and horse, which led to some faults in the tests. Kirsten and Welcome
SB have only been a combination for a couple of weeks now, so the brilliant performance of the previous day
made us very happy. Two days of competition was probably just a bit too much for him.
Emmeloord, 3 January
Kirsten and Welcome SB made their debut today in the Z-2 class (third level). Both tests were ridden
smoothly and the results were 208 and 210 points. This meant they qualified for the Zwolle International
Show which takes place on 10 February in the Zwolle IJsselhallen!
